Seasoned leader takes the helm as Chief Operating Officer
Gradient Learning is thrilled to announce that Darin Simmons, Jr. has joined our team as the new Chief Operating Officer.
Darin brings more than 20 years of professional experience to this vital role, spanning school districts, nonprofits, and large consulting firms. His extensive background is a testament to his versatile leadership and deep understanding of complex organizational dynamics.
Throughout his career, Darin has held executive-level positions, including Chief Operating Officer, Chief People Officer, and Chief Financial Officer. In these roles, he has successfully managed multimillion-dollar budgets, spearheaded large-scale organizational change, and cultivated people-first cultures and innovative ways of working. His ability to navigate diverse environments and consistently achieve impactful results will be invaluable to Gradient Learning as we continue to grow and expand our reach.
A fervent advocate for continuous learning, Darin’s academic journey is as impressive as his professional one. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Government and African & African American Studies from the University of Virginia, and a Master’s in Education Leadership and an MBA from George Mason University. Most recently, he completed his Doctorate in Education Policy at American University, where his research focused on improving parent and educator engagement in school district budgeting processes.
This dedication to education, both in practice and in theory, aligns perfectly with Gradient Learning’s mission.
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Darin to Gradient Learning,” said Monica Milligan, Executive Director of Gradient Learning. “What truly excites me about Darin is the breadth of experience he brings from the school side, the nonprofit side, and the consulting world. This diverse perspective is crucial as we strengthen our internal systems to power our mission of providing whole-student education to schools around the country. We deeply value our relationships and partnerships, and Darin will be instrumental in helping us enhance these.”
Beyond his impressive professional and academic achievements, Darin is deeply committed to his community and a proud father of two who enjoys volunteering at his children’s schools.
We are incredibly fortunate to have Darin’s leadership, expertise, and energy on our team. We eagerly anticipate the many ways he will help us grow and strengthen our work in the years ahead, further empowering schools and students across the nation.
